House of Views is sexy and sophisticated, elegant and eclectic, yet comfortable and relaxing. While built in 1957 (and attributed to Donald Wexler) this was not one of the area’s mid-century tract vacation homes. The site and the home’s custom design were purposeful – always intended to be a timeless luxury retreat with amazing views.
The home’s mid-century elegance and architectural pedigree were further strengthened when architect Albert Frey was commissioned to reimagine the home in the mid-80’s. Since then it has been thoroughly updated with a who’s who of luxury brands – Poggenpohl, Ann Sacks, Subzero, Gaggenau, Viking, Miele, Wolf.
Walled and gated, the trapezoid-shaped lot lends itself to creating multiple outdoor areas. Pathways lead from one amazing scene to the next. An elaborate outdoor kitchen with counter seating. Built-in benches surrounding a firepit. Then there’s the pool and spa area with spectacular mountain views. A covered outdoor living and dining area can be further shaded with motorized awnings. This area also has a misting system helping to keep the area cool on the hottest of days. The private yard is surrounded by a 20’ tall ficus hedge and has 32 palm trees towering overhead.
Inside, the heart of the home is the spacious and open living room with exposed beams and original tiled fireplace flanked by walls of glass sliders. Adjoining the living room is a very sexy martini lounge area next to a classic built-in wet bar and a wall of glass looking out on the cactus garden. This room is built for entertaining, conversation and cocktails. But you could spend hours wandering around and looking at the artwork.
The kitchen is equipped for those that like to cook. A large island centers the room with stools for those that like to nosh and watch the chef at work. There’s a 5-burner range, double ovens and tons of storage. The kitchen opens to the side garden with the outdoor kitchen. Steps away is the dining room with built in buffet and table seating for six.
The home has 3 bedrooms, all ensuite. Plus, there is a den/office that has two daybeds. The primary bedroom has a king bed, desk and sitting area with smart TV and conveniently opens to the pool. The ensuite has a dual sink vanity, a tub and large walk-in shower. Just outside, there is an outdoor shower garden.
The larger of the guest bedrooms has a king bed. The other guest bedroom, just off the kitchen, has a queen bed. Both bedrooms are en-suite, have a sitting area and a smart TV. A guest bath has a walk-in shower and access to the pool area. A perfect place to stop and dry off on your way back to the bar.
House of Views is everything you want in a luxury retreat that lives large but feels like home.
